Kawa Nemir, who translated William Shakespeare's Hamlet into Kurdish and adapted it for the Kurdish theater, has spoken to bianet and announced that he has translated "Tosca" opera by Giacomo Puccini into Kurdish.
Adapting the opera for the Kurdish theater, Celil Toksöz will also direct the Kurdish version of Tosca. "Theater Rast" company will stage the play.
Giving details about his translation of Tosca, Nemir has said that he did not only do translations from its English version, but he also translated some parts of the opera from its Italian original.

Kawa Nemir has told us that they started working on compositions and rehearsals for the play ten days ago:
"Kurdish opera would be difficult, we do not have sufficient staff. There are Mizgîn Tahir, Pervîn Çakar and others, but we need a large group for this play. We have adapted it for theater. We worked with a 40-person group for Hamlet. Tosca play will also be staged by a large grıoup.
"Well-known musicians from Kurdish music such as Dodan and Ali Tekbaş will take the stage. We also think of staging the play in cities like Diyarbakır."

After the premiere of Tosca is held in Amsterdam City Theater (Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam) on October 25, 2019, the play will be staged in nine different places across the Netherlands.

Kawa Nemir is a poet, story writer, translator and editor born in Turkey's eastern province of Iğdır. Kawa studied English language and literature at Hacettepe University in Ankara and at the University of Istanbul. Later, he studied ancient Greek language and literature in Istanbul, with the aim of translating Greek and Latin classics into Kurdish. He has translated many British, American, Irish, and Turkish poets, novelists, storytellers, and dramatists. Some of the writers that he translated are William Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, Cemal Süreya, Turgut Uyar, Gertrude Stein, and Emily Brontë. He also actively participates in Kurdish theatre. In 2012, his translation, Hamlet, was performed by the City Theatre of Diyarbakır, in which he played the part of Hamlet, the King.
