The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) won the elections in the three districts where the government-appointed trustees were in charge before the March 31 local elections.
While one person was detained during last night's (May 7) protests in Cizre, co-mayors Mehmet Zırığ and Berivan Kutlu stated that they will object to this practice.
The Cizre District Security Director came to the municipality and had a meeting with Zırığ. Saying that they were ordered to put the machines and huts, "The Ministry who notified us would have also noticed you," he told the co-mayor.
After the co-mayors and citizens showed resistance, police officers brought a document that includes an order for "taking measures for public security" from the district governor.
The co-mayors then asked for the order and circular that are mentioned in the document, saying that the document is illegal.
When Zırığ asked, "Are you acting against the law?" the Security Director answered, "Yes, we are acting against the law."
The police also placed police huts and x-ray machines in front of the Silopi Municipality with similar reasons. Co-mayors and people who live in those districts protested the police. (TP/VK)
