Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu went to Turkey's Black Sea province of Trabzon yesterday (June 3). Going to his hometown for the Ramadan Feast, Süleyman Soylu, who was also an MP for the province from 2015 to 2018, was met with protests at Trabzon Airport.
When Soylu was about to leave the Trabzon Airport, he was protested by the citizens who were there to welcome main opposition Republican People's Party's Metropolitan Mayoral candidate for İstanbul Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The people waiting in front of the airport shouted "Everything will be fine", which is the electoral slogan of Ekrem İmamoğlu. One person also told Soylu "Watch your step", to which he responded, "Don't put on airs."
Soylu: İstanbul belongs to Kabul
Speaking about the protest afterwards, Soylu said, "I landed at the airport. A group of 20-25 people greeted me there. We were about to set off to come here. The group waiting for the CHP candidate were waiting there.
"When I took a step, someone said to me, "Watch your step." I am watching my step. May Allah be my witness: I haven't done you any wrong.
"We have never taken a step back from the will our Esteemed President has shown. I want to say that I am sorry.
'I won't be provoked'
"I have never eploited being from Trabzon. I would like to express this: Don't let anyone who wants to make a fuss of any kind. I won't be provoked by that. I condemn it. I find it wrong. I reproach it. Don't let anyone who wants to disgrace our country through the power of İstanbul.
"İstanbul is a powerful city, it is important. İstanbul is not only the İstanbul of ours. It also belongs to Mecca, Kirkuk, Bosnia and Kabul." (EMK/SD)
