Two soldiers have lost their lives and four others have been wounded in a military operation in northern Iraq, said the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey in a written statement yesterday (February 10). The wounded soldiers have been hospitalized, according to the statement.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), the Ministry announced that two soldiers, commando captain Burak Coşkun and sergeant major Harun Turhan, have lost their lives and four soldiers have been wounded in the Gara region as part of the second phase of "Operation Claw-Eagle."
It has added that "the targets detected were hit with airstrikes and the presence of the terrorist organization in the region was dealt a heavy blow."
It was launched yesterday
In a statement released earlier yesterday, the Ministry of National Defense announced that the Turkish Armed Forces launched the second phase of the "Operation Claw-Eagle" in the Gara region of northern Iraq.
"Turkey carried out a pre-emptive strike against elements of the PKK [Kurdistan Workers' Party] terror group in northern Iraq as part of the second phase of the Operation Claw-Eagle," said the Ministry on Wednesday.
The ministry statement added that "the terror elements were targeted in the Gara region to prevent their efforts to re-establish their positions used to carry out terror attacks against Turkey."
Turkey's operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle were launched last June. (TP/SD)
