Prison "Forgot" about Prime Suspect's Sanity Report
The third hearing on the murder case of Ayşe Paşalı revealed that the prison failed to send detained defendant Yetkin to the Forensic Medicine Institute for an examination of his sanity as it had been decreed in the previous hearing. The ÇHD was not accepted as co-plaintiff.

Theology Professor: "Women Provoke Rape with Low-Cut Dresses"
Members of the Women Solidarity Foundation and the FeministBiz group claimed that Prof. Çeker committed a criminal offence by saying that women provoke rape and sexual abuse with their clothes. The women took legal action against the academic.

Murder Suspect and Victim's Daughters Testified
The Ankara 1st High Criminal Court decided to research defendant Yetkin's competence to stand trial. Yetkin is tried for killing his divorced wife Ayşe Paşalı. Both daughters of the victim gave their statements at the second hearing of the trial.

217 Women Killed by Men in Turkey in 2010
Data compiled by bianet suggest that males of all age groups, professions and status from almost all over Turkey exposed women of all age groups, professions and status to various kinds of violence in 2010. As a result, 217 women and girls lost their lives.

The case against İstikbal Yetkin who allegedly killed his divorced wife Ayşe Paşalı, in spite of the victim's complaints to the police, started in Ankara. At least 199 women were killed by men in 2010. Men from all age groups, professions and regions imposed violence to women, children and other men. The perpetrators are usually family members or friends. Sexual harassment and rape of children has increased.

4.7 Million Illiterate Women in Turkey
10 percent of the Turkish population is illiterate according to the Turkish Statistical Institute. 84 percent of this group are women. Even if the Turkish education system succeeds in time to make more people literate, this cannot close the gap between men and women.

N.Y. Asks for Justice in Rape Case But There is No Lawsuit
It has been revealed that no charges have been pressed against the 34 people, who are accused of raping 17-year-old N.Y. in Van. Among the 34 people, are the relatives of AKP Deputy Orhan. Justice Minister Ergin stated that an investigation was carried out about four of the suspects, but the file was closed due to lack of evidence.

Men Kill 23 Women in July
Men have killed at least 23 women in July. Six women have lost their lives suspiciously. Last month at least 20 women were injured, 18 women and children were raped, 27 people – 20 of whom were children – were victims of sexual abuse and exploitation.

Turkey cannot protect women, who take shelter in the state. Women are dying. Coordinator Hacisalihoglu of the Hurriyet Campaign to End Domestic Violence is underlining the inadequacy of capacity in institutions.
