According to data compiled on the basis of national and international newspapers and news agencies, male perpetrators killed 206 women between the beginning of January and the end of September 2011. 86 women were raped.
In September 2011, male culprits killed 25 women, three men and three children. 15 women were raped.
Murder
Male offenders killed 25 women in 20 Turkish provinces, three men and three children. Three of the perpetrators committed suicide after the offence, two attempted to kill themselves. Five men surrendered to the police.
Most of the women murders happened in Adana. The provinces where women murders were reported in September 2011 were Adana (4), Antalya (2), Bingöl, Bolu, Denizli, Diyarbakır (2), Elazığ, Eskişehir, Istanbul, Izmir, Kayseri, Kırıkkale, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Konya, Mersin (2), Ordu, Sakarya and Yalova.
Ten women were shot with fire guns, eight were stabbed, three strangled and one woman was beaten to death.
Most of the women murdered in September were killed by their boy-friends. Five women were killed by their boy-friends, four by their husbands, one upon the decision of the family "council", three women by their husbands who were living separately, one woman by her future ex-husband in the course of a divorce case, three women by their former husbands and two women by their brothers.
The murderers were between 22 and 64 years of age; the killed women were aged between 19 and 82.
Rape
15 rape cases in ten provinces were reported for September. Most of the offences occurred in Istanbul. Cities where rape cases were registered were İstanbul(3), Adana, Antalya, Eskişehir, İzmir, İzmit (2), Kocaeli, Manisa and Samsun.
Two women were raped by their colleagues, one by her cousin, one by her boy-friend and five women by individuals they were not acquainted with. Five women were forced to sex work by men they did not know and one woman by her husband.
The women who were raped were between 17 and 60 years old. Their assailants were between 29 and 47 years of age.
1 September

* Mersin: A man with the initials A.Ö. beat his wife S.Ö. When the husband was taken into police custody his wife was brought to hospital.
2 September
Violence - Injury
* Antalya: Three individuals whose identity has not been announced beat A.U. (28) and his wife A.U. (25) who came to Turkey as tourists from Russia. The couple claimed that 25-year-old A.U. was sexually harassed by an employee when they took a white water rafting tour.
* Tokat: H.E. (23) was taken under state protection after she had been beaten by her husband S.E. who was taken into police custody.
* Adana: A man whose identity is not known beat a woman on the street.
* Adapazarı: N.A. (29) stabbed his wife B.A. (22) who was living apart from her husband. N.A. was taken into custody, B.A. was brought to hospital.
Child Abuse
* Adana: B.K. (36) was alleged of sexual abuse of the niece of his brother's wife. He was caught in Hatay and taken to court.
3 September
Murder
* Mersin: Male R.Y. (38) killed his girl-friend Zahide Goncagül (19) with a knife.
* Istanbul: Zeynep Gökçe (34) was stabbed to death by her husband K.G. (64). Gökçe wanted to separate from her husband who attempted to commit suicide after the offence.
* Ordu: Döndü Demirci (49) was killed by her husband Ş.D. (51) with a pump rifle after he was released from police custody. He had been taken into custody because he treated his wife violently 45 days earlier.

* Mersin: A.Ö. beat his wife S.Ö. (56). She was taken to hospital.
* Bursa: S.N. (25) wounded his girl-friend D.D. (25) with a pistol.
Rape
* Kocaeli: S.P. (29) raped his girl-friend N.Ş. (17). S.P. was taken to prison.
Child abuse
* Adana: B.K. (36) raped his female relative N.A. (15). B.K. was arrested under allegations of "sexual abuse of minors".
5 September
Murder
* Istanbul: K.G. (64) killed his wife Zeynep Gökçe (34) with a knife when he took leave from prison for the religious holidays. He went to jail because he injured his ex-wife. K.G. tried to commit suicide after the murder.

* Bartın: A.K. beat his pregnant wife Ö.K.
* Adana: M.O. (35) wounded his wife F.O. with a knife when he was on leave from prison for the religious holidays.
7 September
Lynch Attempt
* Bitlis: 20 men tried to lynch D.T. (25) in front of her family because she filed a divorce case.
8 September
Rape
* Samsun: H.A. (32) raped his female colleague Ç.O. (29) in the surgery room. He was caught upon the complaint of Ç.O and arrested and detained by a court on duty.
* Alanya: A woman with the initials C.M. (21) was raped by A.A. (31) who was taken into police custody afterwards.
Violence
* Adana: A.D. (56) beat his mother T.T. (72). She was taken to hospital. Her son was taken into police custody and released after having given his statement.
9 September
Murder
* Rize: U.S. (22) killed his older sister Nesrin Suiçmez with a gun. Suiçmez wanted to divorce her husband.
* Mersin: D.B. (29) killed his wife Züleyha B. (32) by beating her head with a stone. The incident happened when Züleyha B. who was moving out came back to collect her belongings.
Rape
* İzmit: Football player L.T. raped 21-year-old woman E.K. He was taken into police custody.
Child Abuse
* Bursa: İ.P. (52) was arrested because he allegedly raped S.T. (11), the daughter of his neighbour.
10 September
Murder
* Adana: Village head A.T. (37) killed his girl-friend Şerife Şentürk (30) with a gun because she wanted to break up with him. He committed suicide afterwards.
* Kars: M.Ç. (73) killed his wife Hayret Çamlı (65) by kicking at her head.
Violence - Injuries
* Adana: Ş.E. beat his former girl-friend in front of a café. Neither the customers nor the employees of the café interfered. The police and an ambulance were called after Ş.E. had left the scene.
* Antalya: Y.N. beat his wife N.E. (31) who wanted to separate from her husband. She threw herself off the balcony in the second floor. N.E. was brought to hospital, her husband was taken into police custody.
* Erzurum: K.D. beat his wife G.D. who went to her father's house after the fight. Thereupon, her brother injured her husband's foot with a knife.
11 September
Violence
* Malatya: H.D. (71) beat his wife H.Ö. (39) whom he got married to in an Imam wedding. His wife filed a complaint.
* Malatya: Z.B. (45) beat his wife A.B. (29) and threatened to kill her.
* Malatya: M.M. (41) beat his wife E.M. (31). She was injured when she fell off the balcony in the fourth floor in the course of the fight.
Rape
* İzmit: A.T. (36) raped his cousin Ş.Ö. (54). The culprit was released from custody after he had given his statement.
Harassment
* Antalya: A male with the initials S.E. was caught when he was peeping into a ladies' room. He had hidden in a toilette cabin of the ladies' room at the Provincial Directorate of the Social Security Institute and observed a woman in the next cabin with a small mirror he placed in the gap close to the ground. S.E. was taken into police custody and taken to court on charges of "sexual harassment".
Child Abuse:
* Adana: 16-year-old girl K.G. was raped by 23 men for 16 days. 15 suspects were taken into custody, eleven of whom were arrested. A.E. went to a women shelter.
12 September
Murder
* Antalya: The body of Esma Güven (22) was found in a field. The Public Prosecution sent the body to the Adana Forensic Medicine Institute because the death was found suspicious.
* Antalya: The body of a woman was found. Her head was bound with packing tape, a clothesline was wrapped around her neck and her hands were cuffed behind her back. The identity of the woman has not been clarified. She was between 20 and 25 years old.
* Kırklareli: 31-year-old female A.A. was found dead at home. She was shot in the head.
13 September
Murder
* Eskişehir: With the help of his brother M.Ç. and his friend N.V., 43-year-old F.Ç. injured his wife R.Ç. and her alleged boy-friend E.Y. with a gun. His wife had filed a divorce case.
Child Abuse
* Samsun: 16-year-old girl A.A. was raped by males G.H. (19) and M.B.
14 September
Murder
* Diyarbakır: 23-year-old woman M.A. was found dead in a field. Her 13-year-old brother L.A. said he shot her by accident when he was cleaning a rifle.
Violence - Injuries
* Adana: M.K. (28) beat his wife B.B. (21). The woman injured her husband with a knife taken from the dining table. She was taken into police custody.
* Bolu: S.M. spilled fuel onto the face of his former wife and set it on fire. She was injured.
* Manisa: S.T. (39) severely injured his mother in law H.C. (66) after his wife had moved out. He earned his living with washing cars. S.T. committed suicide with a gun when he was caught by the police.
Child Abuse
* Tekirdağ: O.B. (27) sexually abused his eleven-year-old niece. She left the house crying and was raped by itinerant trader A.B. (32). The suspects were arrested. The girl was brought to the Society for the Protection of Children.
16 September
Murder:
* Izmir: A.B. (49) killed his girl-friend Bahar A. (29) and tried to commit suicide afterwards.
Child Abuse
* Adana: six men raped 14-year-old Z.G. and posted the footage on Facebook. All six perpetrators were caught and arrested upon the complaint of the girl.
17 September

* Bolu: 83-year-old woman S.Ö. was beaten and raped by a person whose identity is not known.
Rape
* Manisa: E.G. (29) raped C.S. (60) at her home. E.G. fell asleep after the rape and was caught at his victim's home.
18 September
Murder
* Kayseri: T.K. (40) killed his wife Aynur Çeçen by strangling her with a scarf. He buried his wife's body in the garden of their house. He was arrested and taken to the Kayseri Closed Prison.
Rape
* Antalya: Three men with the initials Ö.Ö., H.K. and M.T. and 31-year-old female Z.K. were arrested because they forced women L.R., W.U. and A.O. to sex work and on the grounds of wrongful seizure.
19 September
Murder
* Sakarya: E.D. who was newly released from prison shot his former wife İpek Akkoyun (32) when she turned down his proposal to re-marry. After that he went to the house of her boy-friend and killed Recep Köse (65) when he opened the door. E.D. is being searched.
* Ağrı: 21-year-old woman Z.S. first stabbed her husband T.S. (30) who was treating her violently and then shot him with a rifle.
Child Abuse
* Antalya: M.Ç. (40) raped his adopted daughter G.Ç. (14). He was arrested and taken to the Alanya L Type Prison.
21 September
Violence - Injuries
* Mersin: M.U. (28) injured his wife A.U. (22) with a knife. The married couple had been living apart for some time. M.U. was taken into custody.
* Urfa: H.K. (68) beat his wife G.K. (38) who was going to move out. She suffered from a broken nose and a crack in her skull.
22 September
Murder
* Konya: Y.G. (26) killed his wife Dürdane Duran (23) with a pump rifle because she wanted a divorce.
* Bolu: S.K. (24) killed his wife Seher Kocaman (22) with a knife after a quarrel had emerged over the electricity bill. The husband was searched by a health teams and the police afterwards. He surrendered.
Injuries
* İzmir: İ.Ö. (24) injured his wife E.Ö. (21) when he hit a car while they were riding a motorcycle because his wife abandoned him. He will be tried un-detained.
Harassment - Sexual Violence
* İstanbul: E.Ö. harassed three women, V.T. (32), M.K. (33) and J.K. (32), at a car park. He tried to rape V.T. He was subdued by the security staff of the car park and arrested by the police. He is facing imprisonment of between nine and 20 years.
23 September
Violence
* Bursa: R.K. (25) beat his wife (imam wedding) M.A. (23). The woman was seven-month pregnant. She was brought to hospital. Her husband was taken into police custody.
* Erzurum: A.D was beaten by her husband (imam wedding) D.C. Upon the complaint of his wife, D.C. held a knife to her throat at the police station and threatened her. D.C. was arrested and taken to prison.
24 September
Murder
* Denizli: M.C. (34) killed his girl-friend Bircan Aslan (35) who was living together with him with a pump rifle. He committed suicide afterwards.
Rape
* İstanbul: H.G. raped a female tourist with the initials R.P.M. He was arrested and imprisoned upon the complaint of the woman. He is facing imprisonment of between ten and 22 years.
25 September
Murder
* Yalova: M.G. killed his former wife Meva Yayla (33) with a knife. He surrendered to the police afterwards.
Rape
* Istanbul: P.O. beat and raped female N.G. (33) at his workplace. P.O. was taken into police custody upon the complaint of the woman. He was released pending trial.
26 September
Murder
* Kırıkkale: Police officer A.G. (39) killed his wife and their three children before he committed suicide. One child is severely injured.
* Diyarbakır: Male R.T. found his wife at home with another man. R.T. first stabbed his wife Ş.T. and the man whose identity was not disclosed and then threw them off the balcony in the fourth floor. The man died, the woman was seriously injured. R.T. surrendered to the police.
* Adana: 27-year-old G.P. killed his girl-friend and cousin Hülya Güler with a knife and disposed of her body. 14 days after the murder, he showed the police who had been searching for the body the place he had hid Güler's body. He was arrested.
* Elazığ: Ayşe Konar (30) was strangled upon the decision of the family after she had given birth to a child without being married. The family claimed to have found the baby in the fields and handed it to the police.
* Kocaeli: 39-year-old İ.Ş. stabbed his divorced wife İnci Sezer (34) to death at her home.
Violence
* Adana: 25-year-old male Z.E. was taken to hospital because he was slightly injured in a traffic accident. At hospital, he got up from the stretcher and punched female doctor F.K. Also his relatives attacked the woman. Two bones in her face got broken. Four of the suspects were released from police custody, Z.E. was arrested.
* Ankara: 30-year-old female A.A. was beaten and threatened to be killed by her husband (imam wedding) E.K. .She went to the Ankara Courthouse to apply for protection. However, since she was not officially married, her request was rejected. The Ankara Bar Association appointed a lawyer for legal support in the scope of the "Gelincik Project".
* Ankara: 31-year-old Y.N. was treated violently by her husband K.N. (35). After her family had set her under pressure to return to her husband, she escaped to Ankara and found shelter at the police. The prosecutor demanded protection for the woman. The Ankara 11th Family Court decided for her protection the same day. She moved into a woman shelter. Her husband, brother-in-law, her father and her mother received a restraining order for six months and are not allowed to contact her via any means of communication.
* Istanbul: Male actor U.Ç. who was playing in a series beat female co-star E.A. at the set. It turned out that the woman had previously complained about the actor at the police.
Rape
* Eskişehir: 34-year-old male H.E. wrongly identified himself as a police officer and checked the ID of female M.S. (18). After that, he added a narcotic to her fruit juice and raped her after she had passed out. H.E. was taken to court and released pending trial.
27 September
Murder
* Adana: 82-year-old Fatma Aslan was killed at her home. Her throat was cut.
* Bingöl: 34-year-old Ö.D. strangled his sister A.D. (32) when he found out that she was pregnant. Ö.D. was arrested.
Rape
* Izmir: Males İ.A. and H.C. forced females G.G. (16) and A.D. (20) to sex work. They were arrested.
* Adana: 47-year-old B.E. forced his wife D.E. (26) to sex work for monetary reasons. B.E. is facing imprisonment of up to eight years on charges of "attempted prostitution by threatening". He will be tried before the Adana 8th Criminal Court of First Instance.
Child Abuse
* Samsun: 26-year-old V.A. raped his niece S.D. (16). When the girl got sick she was taken to hospital. It turned out that she was seven-month pregnant and that the baby died in the womb. V.A. was taken into custody. He will be tried under allegations of "sexual assault of a minor". The girl's mother is facing charges of "concealment of crime".

* Adana: A man with the initials G.P. stabbed his wife (imam wedding) H.G. to death.
Rape
* Istanbul: Taxi driver N.T. took his client M.S. hostage for four months. He raped her and forced her to sex work afterwards. The woman managed to escape. The immigrant taxi driver was noticed when his visa expired. He was taken into custody and arrested upon the complaint of the woman. He is facing imprisonment of between four and 30 years.
Injuries
* Antep: A man with the initials A.R.K. severely injured his girl-friend H.Ç. with a knife. A.R.K. had previously been arrested in January because he had stabbed H.Ç. in 20 places of her body. The woman found a place in a woman shelter.
* Mersin: A.Y. broke the nose of his wife S.Y. (23) when he beat her.
29 September
Injuries
* Adana: 35-year-old Ö.İ. beat his girl-friend M.Y. (28) who wanted to break up with him on the street. After that, he threatened her with a knife. The woman took out a knife she was carrying and injured Ö.İ. (ÇT/VK)
