Academic Nuriye Gülmen, who was discharged from her post by a Statutory Decree and has been protesting with the demand to be reinstated to her job since then, was taken into custody in the capital city of Ankara at the night of July 6. Gülmen was referred to the Ankara Courthouse and was released after giving her deposition to the Prosecutor's Office.
Anadolu Agency: She had an arrest warrant
The vehicle, where Nuriye Gülmen was going to the Ankara Esenboğa Airport, was intercepted by the police at the police search point in the district of Pursaklar for an identity check.
Writing about the incident on her Twitter account, Gülmen said that she was taken out of the service bus heading to the airport in Ankara and was taken to the security directorate.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency, Nuriye Gülmen was charged with "violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations" by the 35th Criminal Court of First Instance and was taken to the District Security Directorate in Pursaklar. Gülmen was then referred to the Execution Bureau Department of the Public Security Branch Office.
What happened?
Discharged by a statutory decree, academic Nuriye Gülmen was in front of Human Rights Monument on Yüksel Street in capital Ankara to stage sit-in protest since November 9, 2016, followed by teacher Semih Özakça since November 23, 2016.
They went on hunger strike on March 9, 2017. They were arrested on May 23, 2017. Semih Özakça was released on October 20, 2017 and Nuriye Gülmen on December 1, 2017. They ended their hunger strike on January 26, the 324th day of the hunger strike. (AS/SD)
