The educators who ended the hunger strike, which they went on demanding that they be reinstated to their jobs, on the 324th day were discharged today (February 9) from the hospital where they were being treated.
Nuriye Gülmen, Semih Özakça, Esra Özakça and Mehmet Güveli were being treated at Ankara Dışkapı Hospital since January 26 when they ended the hunger strike.
On Twitter account, Nuriye Gülmen announced her discharge with this message:
"We were discharged today. We're all fine. We are at our home with Uncle Mehmet. I will make another statement for the visitation. Once again: Long Live Resistance, Long Live Victory! Long Live Our Yüksel Resistance!"
What happened?
Discharged by a statutory decree, academic Nuriye Gülmen was in front of Human Rights Monument on Yüksel Street in capital Ankara to stage sit-in protest since November 9, 2016, followed by teacher Semih Özakça since November 23, 2016.
They went on hunger strike on March 9, 2017. They were arrested on May 23, 2017. Semih Özakça was released on October 20, 2017 and Nuriye Gülmen on December 1, 2017. They ended their hunger strike on January 26, the 324th day of the hunger strike. (ÇT/TK)
