Military Prosecution: Document Not Prepared by General Staff

The General Staff's military prosecution has announced that the controversial "Action plan against reactionary forces" published in the daily Taraf newspaper was not prepared in the General Staff, and that there was no proof that the signature on the document belonged to marine corps officer Colonel Dursun Çiçek.

The military prosecution said that it had found no information, document, command or evidence among electronic communication or written documents. It has thus decided that there is no reason to prosecute.

Because there is no original of the document, the prosecution has said that it was not clear who had created the document and why, whether the Turkish Armed Forces were being targeted on purpose. It added that general courts were in charge of investigating how the document came into the hands of a Taraf newspaper reporter and how it was published.

The military prosecution thus decreed lack of jurisdiction, a decision which can be appealed against. It has announced that its own investigation has ended, and that it will send the investigation file to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecution. (EÖ/AG)
