When signing his statement to the military prosecutor, Colonel Dursun Çiçek used a signature that looked different from that on the highly controversial "Action Plan for a Struggle against Reactionary Forces" that lays out strategies to defame the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the religious Fethullah Gülen movement.
However, the signature on the plan resembles many other signature samples collected.
Meanwhile, the civilian will not interrogate Marine Officer Çiçek before next week. It has been eleven days since the accusations against Çiçek emerged.
Before hearing Çiçek's statement, the prosecutors are waiting for the report from the Gendarmerie General Headquarters Laboratory, which is first being sent to the police and Forensic Medical Institute. It had been expected that Çiçek would make a statement this week, but instead he will make his statement next week.
Ergin: Waiting for the Forensic Medicine analysis
The signature Çiçek gave at the military prosecutor's office is different from those he gave on 21 documents the police has obtained. Despite serious allegations against the colonel, he is still on duty.
The Association for Human Rights and Solidarity with Oppressed People (MAZLUMDER) and the AKP have filed a criminal complaint.
According to the Anadolu news agency, Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin said that he is waiting for the results of the Forensic Medical Institute's analysis.
Four Turkish newspapers emphasise an alliance against the plan
Taraf, Sabah and Star newspapers cited Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan telling European Union (EU) ambassadors during a dinner that Turkey stands united against that plan.
Hürriyet newspaper's chief editor Ertuğrul Özkök asked why Çiçek gave a different signature after his last hearing and also questioned why the General Staff's doors are "as closed as a wall".
Star: Turkey united against that foul plan
"Colonel Çiçek's scandal plan is almost the same as the one prepared by Ergenekon suspect Hurşit Tolon in 2003. Furthemore, Çiçek also prepared the plan for Tolon," said the Star newspaper.
Also it was reported that the Ergenekon prosecutors are waiting for the forensic medical report and have requested another sample signature of Çiçek.
Taraf: Deception acknowledged
Erdoğan's reaction againt the "Anti Regression Plan": The EU laws will be passed quickly, there is no return from reforms and democracy. Due to Erdoğan, nobody has enough power to turn back from that direction. He expects all necessary adjustment laws for the EU membership to be effected before the National Assembly goes on the summer break.
Hürriyet questioning Çiçek's action
Özkök raises the question whether Çiçek gave a different signature because he had reason to be afraid of something. He tried to find an answer to this question but the General Staff's doors were "as closed as a wall". According to Ankara correspondents, Çiçek had been on leave for a short while but has been back in office since 22 June.
