Journalists who were fired from the daily Hürriyet due to being members of the Journalists' Union of Turkey (TGS) have launched a campaign on Twitter under the hashtag, "Give our rights" (#HakkımızıVerin).
Hürriyet, a major newspaper, fired 34 unionized journalists in late October. The newspaper was bought by the pro-government Demirören Group last year.

"There are cancer patients and people expecting baby among the 45 journalists who have a total of 481 years of labor at Hürriyet", the journalists said in a statement.
"We understand it very well that you don't want to work with us. Our feelings are mutual.
"But how do you have the right to treat journalists in an inhumane manner? How do you explain this indifference and disregarding laws, which are unprecedented in the history of the press?
"Journalism is the job of journalists, not of those who usurp the rights of them. We, the 45s, want our rights. We will get our rights. Long live the 45s, long live journalism!" (RT/VK)
