Women Took the Streets Against Violence
Women, who gathered at the Abide-i Hurriyet Square on Womens Day on March 8, protested honor crimes, and sexual, physical, economic and emotional violence against women. They asked that the TCK be amended in line with their demands.

IHD:77 Women were Killed by Relatives in 2003
According to IHD, 40 women died as a result of honor crimes in 2003, while 37 died as a result of domestic violence. IHD said the capacities of police and judicial system should be broadened so that they can handle complaints and victims are protected.

Owner of Manner Magazine Arrested
Muharrem Cengiz of Manner in the Culture and Arts World, magazine, was arrested at the Istanbul DGM where he went as a witness. He was sent to prison because of statements against him. His magazine and Group Yorum criticized the arrest.

Court has no Money for Stamps
Ozic of Radyo Dunya cant appeal the one-year prison sentence he got for criticizing the motion to send Turkish troops to Iraq and to accept foreign troops. The court wasnt able to send the verdict to the journalist since there was no money for stamps.

Policemen Battering Journalist Investigated
An investigation has been ordered about the police officers from the Beyoglu police station who detained and beat up reporter Hilmi Hacaloglu of the private NTV television. Police has said that Hacaloglu was not detained, but just received as a guest.

CE Heads Toward Ending Turkey Monitoring
Council of Europes Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly recommends closing the monitoring procedure for Turkey. Ankara has fulfilled its obligations, the recommendation says. But post-monitoring dialogue should continue on 12 issues.

Benli, the former editor-in-chief of the Hedef magazine was released a year ago when he was diagnosed with the Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome. Now, the official report saying Benli has recovered, and he has been sent to prison again.

The defendants were prosecuted for having attended the funeral of Ciftci in 1999. Dr. Ayan, was sentenced to 18 months and Kaya, together with other 28 defendants, to 18 months in prison.

RTUK, in its last meeting, warned 21 media organizations for their Paparazzi programs. It called off programs at some media organizations including GUN TV in Diyarbakir, national Show TV channel, CNBC-e and even some cable TV stations.

The Rainbow Homosexual Society Movement criticized Cicek, who objected to placing a statue of Attalos IIs statue in Antalya saying he was gay. They said he had animosity against homosexuals and called on everyone to put an end to discrimination.

Poverty Protestors Sentenced
A Turkish court sentenced 18 people, who attended a press announcement, to one and half year in prison. 23 teachers, who participated in a strike, were sentenced to 4 months in prison. The sentences of 22 teachers were late postponed.

Journalists Fined in Turd Case
Journalists from the Yesil Gole, 23 Subat, and Kuzeydogu Anadolu newspapers, who were sued by Goles local official Gungor, were fined to pay 5 billion Turkish lira in damages. The journalists will appeal the decision.

Bar Opens Case against Broadcast Regulation
According to Diyarbakir Bar Head Tanrikulu, the regulation on Kurdish language broadcasts is more backward than the related law. Tanrikulu said the regulation does not say how the broadcasts will be done, but instead says how they will not be done.
