Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a report, warning the government on the new act proposal concerning Turkey’s homeland security. The parliament should reconsider the parts that expands police duties on searching, detention and usage of fire guns which can undermine Turkey’s efforts to improve human rights, the report said.
“Break mechanisms are needed [to protect human rights],” Emma Sinclair-Webb from HRW said.
“Previously, the government also passed problematic regulations on police interventions and now they are even going further with the act proposal on homeland security.
“With this new act, the parliament must create new mechanism on improving human rights as much as for homeland security.”
The act proposal also includes amendments in Turkey's Anti-Terror Act (TMK) and duties of governors. (YY/BM)
