HRW Executive Director Kenneth Roth has said in the World Report 2019, “The populists spreading hatred and intolerance in many countries are spawning a resistance.” According to the report, repressive practices continue in Turkey.

HRW has stated that Syrian government forces are blocking civilians fleeing the Afrin operation of Turkey from entering territory under government control. Civilians are reported to be stranded in areas with limited food, clean water and medical supplies.

Human Rights Watch released a report, warning the government on the new act proposal concerning Turkey’s homeland security. The parliament should reconsider the parts that expands police duties, the report said.

Although Justice Minister Şahin, Police Chief Cerrah and the police educators say that the police officers should show their identities when asked, the citizens still get beaten up for asking their identities and the authorities still make statements protecting these police officers and file suspicious lawsuits against the victims.
