State-run Anadolu News Agency (AA) has reported that detention warrants were issued for 35 people as a part of an investigation into the "Fethullahist Terrorist Organization's (FETÖ) media structure".
According to AA, journalists Muhsin Pilgir, Ömer Faruk Aydemir, Sait Gürkan Tuzlu, Cüneyt Seza Özkan, Yusuf Duran, Ahmet Feyzullah Özyurt, Ahmet Sağırlı, Mutlu Özay and BirGün daily's journalist and editor Burak Ekinci have been taken into custody.
As a part of the investigation carried out by İstanbul Public Chief Prosecution Terror and Organized Crimes Bureau, Court on duty has also ruled search orders and order to take the journalists forcibly to testify be issued upon demand of the prosecution.
Journalist Burak Ekici from BirGün reported his detention at around 6 a.m. on Twitter and said that he was taken into custody in a police raid launched in his apartment this morning (August 10).
The news agencies reported that police continued raid operations to the houses of the journalists.
According to bianet's quarterly Media Monitoring Reports, 136 journalists were behind bars as of July 2017. (ÇT/DG)
