Human rights advocates who were in the district of Büyükada in İstanbul for a training meeting were detained yesterday (July 5) and sent to police stations in the Anatolian side today. Two educators from Germany and Sweden are still kept in Büyükada.
According to the information that attorney Benan Molu gave to bianet, the detained human rights advocates and the police stations they were taken to are as follows:
İdil Eser (Amnesty International), – Maltepe Police Station
İlknur Üstün (Women's Coalition) - Maltepe Police Station
Nalan Erkem (Helsinki Citizens Assembly) – Kartal Şehit Aslantepe Police Station
Özlem Dalkıran (Helsinki Citizens Assembly) - Kartal Şehit Aslantepe Police Station
Günal Kurşun (Human Rights Agenda Association) – Topselvi Police Station
Veli Acu (Human Rights Agenda Association) - Topselvi Police Station
Nejat Taştan (Association for Monitoring Equal Rights) - Pendik Esenyalı Police Station
Şeyhmuz Özbekli (Rights Initiative) – Pendik Esenyalı Police Station
Ali Garawi (Swedish citizen human rights trainer) – Büyükada Police Station
Peter Steudtner (German citizen human rights trainer) – Büyükada Police Station
The detained hotel manager was released.
What happened?
Human rights advocates who were in the district of Büyükada in İstanbul for a training meeting were detained yesterday.
When or how they were detained were not informed to their families.
Where they were kept wasn’t announced until 3 p.m. today.
