Van Governor's Office has banned protest demonstrations and open-air meetings in the city on the grounds of "public health and public order."
While the ban will remain in effect for 15 days starting from October 21 (today) to the midnight of November 4, statements for the press, sit-in protests and surveys, opening/ setting up tents and stands, petitions campaigns and distribution of leaflets and handouts will only be held or organized on the condition of a permission to be given by the local authority.
According to the statement of the Governor's Office, the ban has been imposed "upon the recommendations of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry's Coronavirus Science Board and the instructions of President [and AKP Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan] with the aim of managing the risk posed by the outbreak/ infection to public health and public order, maintaining social distance and taking the infection rate under control."
Referring to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations within this context, the Van Governor's Office has banned "protest demonstrations and open-air meetings to be held within the geographical borders of Van province for 15 days from October 21 to November 4." (TP/SD)
