The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) of Turkey has announced that a 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Urla district in the country's Aegean province of İzmir.
Hit the city at 7 am today (November 30), the quake was reportedly 56.18 kilometers from Urla district, with a depth of 3.97 kilometers.
The Kandilli Observatory of Boğaziçi University has announced the earthquake's magnitude as 5.3 and its depth as 4.8 kilometers.
Nine minutes after the earthquake, a 4.3-magnitude aftershock happened in the area. The AFAD has stated that the aftershock was 57.22 kilometers from Urla and occured at a depth of 7.16 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt in the neighboring provinces of Manisa and Aydın as well. The AFAD has said that "there are no negative reports."
Making a statement about the issue, İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer has also announced that "no damage has been caused by the earthquake that happened in the Aegean Sea and was felt in the city as well." The Mayor has extended his get-well-soon wishes to the people of İzmir.
İzmir Governor Yavuz Selim Köşger has also briefly written on his social media account: "In the 5.1-magnitude earthquake that happened off the coast of Urla, no unfortunate incidents have occured in our province for the time being." (TP/SD)
