In the forested areas of Diyarbakır's Lice district, a fire that has been ongoing for a few days has reignited due to a lack of proper cooling efforts, according to a report by the Mezopotamya Agency (MA).
Intermittent plumes of smoke rise from the mountainous terrain near the villages of Entax, Gom, and Bamitnî. Niyazi Hantaş, a local resident quoted by MA, pointed out the delayed response to the fire, saying, "Firefighters arrived, but it was too late. With the help of people from neighboring villages, we managed to contain the fire to some extent."
Hantaş mentioned that they had managed to bring the fire under control in the evening, saying, "However, it reignited in the morning hours. The fire still persists in various areas."
Emin Yaylık from Entax neighborhood told the agency that fires had occurred in the same area before, emphasizing that this time not only the forested area but also homes suffered damage.
Highlighting that this was the third fire in the same area, Yaylık remarked, "Two of our relatives' houses burned down in the fire yesterday, and the damages were extensive. The grazing areas for our animals also burned." He called for an early response to prevent fires.
The fire that erupted in the rural area of Marînûs (Kavaklı) village in Hakkari has been going on since August 10.
Although the fire department responded to the fire after five days, preventing the fire from spreading to residential areas, it continues to spread in many inaccessible areas where transportation is not possible. (NT/VK)
