Women’s Initiative for Peace including 25 female writers and academicians went to Cizre district of Şırnak province in southeastern Turkey after nine-day-old curfew in the city.
Women took the road this morning from İstanbul went to Mardin at first and then arrived in Cizre, Şırnak. The group was welcomed by Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Aycan İrmez and a female representative from Şırnak Bar Association in Cizre.
Women are offering their condolences to the families of civilians who were killed during curfew.
Gülseren Onanç and Özlem Dalkıran from the group told bianet policemen escorted them while crossing Mardin province and then the group passed three police check-points to reach Cizre. Women’s Initiative was controlled by Special Team policemen at the last checkpoint.

“We are going to Cizre to act with solidarity with women who are victims of increasing conflicts and violence in our country. It is an individual attempt and it is not subject to any institution. Each friend of ours represents conscious women like her. We try to tell those sisters and women there that they are not alone."
