People in Turkey spent 4 hours and 33 minutes a day watching TV on average in 2020, according to a report by the TV Audience Research Company (TİAK).
Compared to the previous year, when the coronavirus pandemic hadn't begun, the average TV viewing time increased by 19 minutes a day, the report found.
The average time in Turkey was 4 hours and 18 minutes in 2018, 4 hours and 21 minutes in 2017 and 4 hours and 23 minutes in 2015 and 2016 each, the TİAK report showed.
Television viewing times are significantly higher in Turkey compared to the average of 91 countries, which is 2 hours and 54 minutes a day, according to Eurodata TV Worldwide.
The average time is 3 hours and 54 minutes in Europe, 3 hours and 50 minutes in Southern America and 3 hours and 32 minutes in Northern America, as per the Eurodata TV Worldwide data.
Who watched TV the most?
While average TV viewing times increased among all target audiences in 2020, the highest increase compared to 2019 was in the 5-11 age group, with 25 minutes. In the 20-34 age group, the viewing time increased by 11 minutes.
Women spent 50 minutes more than men in a day on television in 2019.
The age group with the longest daily TV viewing time was the 55+ group and the group with the lowest TV viewing time was the 12-19 age group.
What is being watched the most?
In the "all individuals" target group, the most watched programs were TV series (29 percent), children's programs (21.1 percent), news programs (16.6 percent), entertainment programs (12.2 percent), reality (7.5 percent), movies (6.6 percent) and cultural programs (3.3 percent).
"TV series" had an average broadcast time of 1 hour and 44 minutes, longer than any other type of program. (HA/VK)
