Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that a truce agreement between Syrian government and opposition has been reached.
Meeting with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu, Putin stated that three documents were signed between Damascus and the opposition.
“The first document is related to the establishment of truce. The second document is about the precautions towards controlling the truce regime. The third document is a declaration about commencing peace talks in Syria”.
Putin said, “Indeed the agreements are fragile. Special attention is needed to protect and develop the agreements”
The truce agreement will be put into effect as of 12 a.m. this evening (December 29), Shoygu said.
Turkey and Russia will be guarantors
A statement issued by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “The groups designated as terror organizations by the UN Security Council are not included in this consensus”.
“Turkey and Russia support this arrangement as guarantors.
“The sides committed to halt armed offensives including airstrikes, and not expanding the territories they control against each other”.(YY/TK)
