After 18-year-old Mehmet Aydın, a contracted worker working at the new İstanbul Airport, fell down an elevator shaft and lost his life on October 31, around 300 of his colleagues at the construction of airport's cargo building halted work in protest of this occupational homicide.
The protest of İstanbul Airport workers has borne fruit. As reported by Mezopotamya Agency, the safety measures requested by the protesting workers to start working again will be taken.

After meeting with officials from the company, the workers have started working as the officials have agreed to lighten the construction site and close the elevator shafts with safety fences, as demanded by the workers.
Indicating that the necessary safety measures were not taken at the construction site, the protesting workers stated that the elevator shaft along their working trail was not closed and fixed, they were working overtime, there was no lighting or light on their walking trails and they had to walk with the flash of their mobile phones.
Preparing to get engaged last weekend, deceased worker Mehmet Aydın reportedly opened the door of the elevator shaft, thinking that it was the door of the stairs, and lost his life by falling down the elevator shaft. (HA/SD)
