Raiding a house in İdil district in Turkey's Kurdish-majority southeastern province of Şırnak, the police battered 8 months pregnant Hatice Baykara (28). During the incident that happened on July 16, the police reportedly hit Baykara's waist with gunstocks.
As reported by Müjdat Can from Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Baykara was taken to the Public Hospital in an ambulance called by her relatives. After her treatment ended, he was discharged on July 17.
'They hit with gunstocks'
Speaking about what she went through, Hatice Baykara says that a raid was carried out against their house by nearly 20 police officers early in the morning. Baykara recounts, "At the moment they knocked on the door, they broke down the windows. As soon as I opened the door, they held me by my hair and threw me on the broken glass."
'They scared my children'
When she asked the officers a question, they reportedly shouted at her, saying, "Shut up, don't speak." Baykara says that while she was trying to stand up, the police hit her waist with a gunstock:
The children started screaming after the voices. I said, 'Why are you scaring the children?' They both beat and scared me. They woke my four children and scared them.
'They held a gun to my head'
Saying that the police held a gut to her had, Baykara adds, "The police held a gun to my head until the house search ended. The butt of the gun was on my head until the search ended. My pains intensified during the raid, I fell on the ground. After the police left the house, we called an ambulance. The doctors asked, 'How didn't you have a miscarriage?'"
Getting a report documenting the battery, Baykara went to the İdil District Security Directorate and filed a criminal complaint against the police officers. (RT/SD)
