There will be a pay rise for public servants and retired public servants by 4% for the first and 3.5% for the second half of 2018, and 4% for the first and 5% for the second half of 2019.
Ministry of Labor and Social Security has informed through a written statement that in the case that the inflations rate exceeded the agreed salary increase rates, the difference due to inflation would be compensated as well.
The negotiations regarding the rates of pay rise for approximately 3,200,000 civil servants and 1,900,000 retired civil servants begun on August 2017 between the parties had started on August 3. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security is represented by Board of Public Employers and the civil servants are represented by the Board of Civil Servants Unions under the presidency of Confederation of Public Servants Trade Unions (Memur-Sen).
Minister of Labor and Social Security Jülide Sarıeroğlu announced yesterday (August 21) that they had proposed a half-yearly salary increase by 3,5% in 2018 and 4% for the first half and 5% for the second half of 2019.
Memur-Sen demanded 10% + 6% in 2018
In the negotiations, Memur-Sen had proposed three alternative pay rise rates for 2018 and 2019. First alternative was 10% for the first, 6% for the second half of 2018 and 10% for the first and 8% for the second half of 2019.
For 2016 the parties had agreed on a salary increase by 6% and 5% and for 2017, by 3% and 4%.
According to data of Turkey Statistical Institute, the average inflation rate in 2017 is 9.44%. The lowest salary for public servants is 1,871 TL (454 Euros) and the minimum wage is 1,404 TL (341 Euros). (NV/DG)
