Operation, Curfew in District of Hizan in Bitlis

Bitlis Governorship has announced that curfew has been declared in the hamlets in three villages of Hizan district in Bitlis on the ground that an operation will be conducted in the region.

According to a written statement published on the official website of Bitlis Governorship, the curfew which took effect yesterday (April 12) at 10 p.m. will be in force for an indefinite period of time.

As of April 12 at 10 p.m., the curfew has been in effect in the following villages and hamlets:

* The hamlets of Karaağaç, Akbaş, Yedikardeş and Mollabirgi in the village of Horozdere,

* The hamlets of Bağlarbaşı, Güvendik, Bereket in the village of Ağılözü,

* The hamlet of Düztepe in the village of Akşar.

In the statement, it has been indicated that the curfew declared as per the Law No. 5442 for Provincial Administration will be in force "on the condition that life in the related villages and hamlets can maintain its normal flow and the right of the students to education and training will not be restricted."

About Bitlis According to data of 2015, the population of the city is 341,225. 64% of the population live in city and 36% in rural areas. The Ministry of Interior appointed Governor Ahmet Çınar as political trustee to Bitlis Municipality in 2016. Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chairs Hüseyin Olan and Nevin Daşdemir Dağkıran were detained on November 24, 2016 and then were arrested on charge of “being a member of a terrorist organization, carrying out actions on behalf of a terrorist organization, aiding and abating a terrorist organization”. Former Bayburt Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu was appointed as mayor on June 21, 2017.
