London-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world's leading higher education specialists, has released their global university rankings for the year.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US has emerged at the top of the rankings for the 12th year in a row, with a full score of 100.
Five universities in Europe in the top 10
Five universities in Europe were among the top 10 in the ranking while the top 10 universities were the following:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (US-100 points),
University of Cambridge (Great Britain-99.2points),
University of Oxford (Great Britain-98.9 points),
Harvard University (ABD-98.3 points),
Stanford University (ABD- 98.1 points),
Imperial College London (Great Britain-97.8 points),
ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (İsviçre-93.3 points),
National University of Singapore (NUS) (Singapur-92.7 points),
University College London (UCL) (Great Britain- 92.4 points)
University of California, Berkeley (UCB) (90.4 points)
METU is ranked the 336th
The Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara had the highest rank among the universities in Turkey, securing its place in the top 400, on the 336th rank with 32.2 points.
İstanbul Technical University (İTÜ) comes next on rank 202 with 27.6 points, Koç University on rank 431 with 26.2 points, Bilkent University on rank 502 with 23.1 points, and Boğaziçi University on rank 514 with 22.7 points.
How are the top universities in the world listed?
QS evaluates more than a thousand and 500 higher education institutions from 104 countries and regions globally since 20 years ago according to 6 criteria which are called the "indicators."
2024 introduced three new indicators to reflect the changing priorities of students and the evolving missions of world-class higher education institutions today: a commitment to sustainability; even greater emphasis on supporting graduate employability and increased international research collaboration to solve the world's biggest challenges.,"
Around 17.5 million academic articles and evaluations of more than 240 thousand higher education academicians and experts are taken into account for the ranking.
