Mezopotamya Agency (MA) reported that their reporter Fırat Can Arslan, who was arrested on July 25 due to a news report, is being held in solitary confinement in prison.
The reason for this situation is that while Arslan was accused of "marking a counterterrorism official as a target for terrorist organizations," his investigation file does not contain the name of any designated "terror" group.
During a meeting with his lawyer, Arslan recounted that he was initially taken to the section where criminal detainees were held at Sincan Prison, and then, upon objection, prosecutors ordered his transfer to Sincan 1 Type F Prison, where political prisoners are held.
The news report that led to his arrest was about a married judge and a prosecutor who presided over the same case, which was about 18 Kurdish media workers facing "terrorism"-related charges. The couple were reassigned to a different city after the first hearing of the trial on July 12, Arslan reported.
The incriminating report was based on publicly accessible information from the website of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK). Eventually, a court blocked access to the report.
In addition to Arslan, four journalists, including a bianet editor, who retweeted the same news report on Twitter were also detained in home raids with the same accusation, but they were later released under judicial control. (RT/VK)
