Arrest of academic Nuriye Gülmen and teacher Semih Özakça, who have been fired through the statutory decree and have been on hunger strike for 77 days to be reinstated to their jobs, has been headlined only by BirGün, Cumhuriyet, Özgürlükçü Demokrasi and Evrensel daily newspapers.
Seven of the pro-government newspapers, namely Sabah, Akşam, Star, Takvim, Güneş, Yeni Şafak, Yeni Akit, haven’t covered the arrest.
Sözcü daily, a dissident media outlet, didn’t cover the incident but two of its columnists, Yılmaz Özdil and Bekir Coşkun criticized the police violence against the hunger striker and the support protests. (EKN/TK)
