Previously replaced with state-appointed trustees by the Ministry of Interior, Ahmet Türk and Necla Yıldırım have been acquitted in the lawsuit that was stated as the reason for their removal from office.
While he was serving as the Metropolitan Co-Mayor of Mardin, Türk was dismissed twice on November 17, 2016 and on August 19, 2019.
Necla Yıldırım was also removed from office on September 11, 2016 while she was the Mazıdağı District Co-Mayor in Mardin.
The final hearing of Ahmet Türk and Necla Yıldırım as well as HDP's Süreyya Bağış, Müslüm Yürek and Sabri Yüş was held at the Mardin 3rd Heavy Penal Court on February 14. They were facing charges over their attendance to the funeral of a YPG member in Mazıdağı in 2015.
Kuzu: With the motive of condoling with a voter...
Erdal Kuzu, the attorney of Ahmet Türk, indicated that the attendance of his client to the funeral was not an act of violence or force and underlined that Türk attended the funeral not with the aim of attending the funeral of an organization member, but with the motive of condoling with a voter.
Stating that if the defendants were penalized, it would pave the way for the penalization of all people in the region, Kuzu said that the defendants should not be approached with prejudices through their political personalities.
All defendants acquitted
The court has ruled that Ahmet Türk, Necla Yıldırım and Sabri Yüş shall be acquitted as there were no criminal elements and that Bağış and Yürek shall be acquitted as there were no adequate and material evidence.
The investigation launched against Ahmet Türk in 2015 on the allegation that they committed "misconduct in office" with the Mardin Water and Sewage Administration executives also ended in a decision of non-prosecution. (EKN/SD)
