The Perception of Climate Change in Turkey report jointly prepared by the İklim Haber news website and KONDA research has been published.
The report has shown that while 15 percent of the participants state that they are "very concerned" about climate change, 46 percent of them indicate that they are "concerned" about it.
To the question, "When do you think the effects of climate change will be felt", 12 percent of the participants say that "they will be felt in the next 10 years." While 3 percent of the participants think that they will not be felt at all, 23 percent answer, "I do not know."
77 percent of the ones who are "very concerned" about climate change and 64 percent of the ones who are "concerned" about it think that Turkey is currently influenced by climate change.
70 percent say catastrophes have increased in Turkey
Seven out of every ten participants are of the opinion that catastrophes have increased in Turkey and think that climate change plays a part. Similarly, 62 percent of the ones who say that "catastrophes have increased in Turkey" think that climate change is effective in this increase.
While 65 percent of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) voters say that catastrophes have increased in Turkey, this rate is 78 percent among the voters of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and 81 percent among those of İYİ Party.
64 percent of the ones who define their lifestyles as religious conservative, 72 percent of the ones who define their lifestyles as traditional conservative and 75 percent of the ones who define their lifestyles as modern also think that catastrophes are on the increase in Turkey.
While 43 percent of AKP voters and 58 percent of CHP voters indicate that the effects of climate change are felt in daily life, this rate increases to 70 percent among the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) voters and falls to 40 percent among the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) voters.
55 percent say, 'Government makes no efforts'
55 percent of the participants say that the central government makes no effort about climate change. While 29 percent indicate that the government makes some effort regarding the issue, only 16 percent say that the government is endeavoring to stop climate change.
31 percent of AKP voters, 77 percent of CHP voters and 86 percent of HDP voters are of the opinion that the government of Turkey is making an effort about climate change. (AÖ/DB/SD)
