14 areas in Turkey's Kurdish-majority southeastern province of Şırnak and 4 areas in Dersim have been declared "Temporary Special Security Zones" for a year (from January 1 to December 31, 2022).
In a statement about the issue released on the official website of the Şırnak Governor's Office, the reason for the declaration has been cited as "ensuring national security, public order and welfare, preventing the committal of crimes and protecting others' rights and freedoms."
The Governor's Office of Tunceli has said that 4 areas have been declared as such by indicating that "due to the ongoing operations as part of counterterrorism activities, entering the related areas is ill-advised in terms of the protection of the safety of life and property of people."
Both decisions have been taken as per the Article 32/A* of the Law on Military Forbidden Zones and Security Zones.
