One person has died in the flood and landslide that hit the province of Ordu in Turkey's Black Sea region.
As reported by the Ünye Kent, a news website publishing local news from Ordu, the 56-year-old Bayram Sekmen, who was in his hazelnut garden in İkizce during the flood, was caught in the ensuing landslide and lost his life.
The Minister of Environment and Urbanization Murat Kurum made a statement about the flood at the Flood Disaster Crisis Coordination Center in Ordu today (August 10). Kurum said,
"253 kilograms of precipitation has fallen in one square-meter. The damage assessment of all buildings and roads will be completed this week and they will be reconstructed in two months after the necessary funds are provided."
The flood, which hit Ordu on August 8 and affected almost 500 thousand people, was especially effective on August 9.
Though it has not been reported in the news, it is estimated that a large number of animals have also lost their lives in the flood and the resulting landslides. Seven districts of Ordu and 500 thousand people have been affected by the flood. Over 30 tonnes of hazelnuts have also been swept to the Black Sea. (BK/SD)
