More than 45 percent of İstanbulites think either a curfew or a full lockdown should be implemented to slow down the spread of Covid-19, according to a survey by the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (IMM) Statistical Office.
The survey was conducted between November 17 and 21 among 749 randomly selected participants.
Turkey has seen a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases and fatalities since mid-November.
Here are the highlights of the survey:
*79.7 percent of İstanbulites said they have sufficient knowledge about Covid-19.
*When asked about what possible additional measures in the fight against coronavirus would be, 29.2 percent of the participants said "curfews" and 15.3 percent said "a 15-day lockdown."
*55.4 percent of the men and 41.6 percent of the women said they would have the coronavirus vaccine if it came.
55.1 percent of the participants said they follow developments regarding the pandemic on television, 32.6 percent said they use social media, and 11.1 percent said they use news websites.
99.6 percent said they use masks and 31 percent said they use gloves. In the previous survey in March, 35.8 percent of the participants said they used masks.
60.4 percent said they had paid attention more to their diet in the past 10 days.
82.2 percent said they either didn't use public transportation or used it less than before. This rate was 45.5. Percent in March.
11.5 percent said they did more shopping than before the pandemic started.
When asked, "How has coronavirus affected your daily life?" 34.8 percent said their socialization was restricted, 33.6 percent said their psychology worsened, 26 percent said their space of movement was restricted and 5.6 percent said their daily life was not affected.
