Journalist Murat Kuseyri from Turkey lost his life in Stockholm at 5 am today (September 30). In treatment at a hospital in Sweden's capital city, where he had been living for years, Kuseyri was 66 years old.
Reporting news for several critical media outlets such as ANF, Evrensel and Yeni Özgür Politika newspaper, Kuseyri had cancer and had been struggling against brain tumor for the past one and a half years.
In his last will, Murat Kuseyri did not want a funeral ceremony to be held after his passing and donated his organs.
Born in Turkey's southern province of Adana on April 17, 1955, Kuseyri was put on trial after the military coup in Turkey on September 12, 1980 and faced charges over the Revolutionary Communist Party of Turkey (TDKP). In the early 1990s, he had to move to Sweden.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Murat Kuseyri's health condition had deteriorated since May 2021.
Fatih Polat, the Editor-in-Chief of Evrensel Newspaper, has expressed his condolences on his social media account:
"Our Sweden correspondent, friend, and beloved Murat Kuseyri has lost his life. He had been in the entire story of Evrensel. He was our eyes and ears in Sweden. His labor is immense, his value is indisputable. He donated his organs in his last will and did not want a funeral ceremony to be held." (EMK/SD)
