Detained due to his "Movement of the Nameless" (İsimsizler Hareketi) social media group on May 17, referred to court to be arrested and released by the court on May 19, Taylan Kulaçoğlu has been arrested.
Shortly after he was released, the prosecutor objected to his release from detention and a warrant was issued against him upon this objection. Kulaçoğlu was taken into custody from his house by the police earlier yesterday (May 20). He was arrested shortly afterwards.
Tamer Doğan, the attorney of Kulaçoğlu, has shared the following message about the arrest of his client on Twitter:
"Our client Taylan Kulaçoğlu has been arrested after he was interrogated with the same questions by Balıkesir Penal Judgeship of Peace, which he attended vie Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) from the Ayvalık Courthouse. Arresting a person due to his social media posts amid pandemic condition means sending him to death!"
What happened?
Targeted by pro-government media outlets and social media accounts over his "Movement of the Nameless" (İsimsizler Hareketi) group on social media, Taylan Kulaçoğlu and RED magazine Editor-in-Chief journalist Hakan Gülseven were taken into custody on May 17.
They were asked questions about their social media posts at their interrogations both at the police station and prosecutor's office.
While Gülseven and Kulaçoğlu were referred to court with a request for their arrest by the prosecutor, the court ruled for their release on May 19.
As the prosecutor objected to his release one day later, Kulaçoğlu was detained from his house in Ayvalık, Balıkesir. While he was being detained, he shared the following message on Twitter: "Even though I have no suspicion of escape, I am being detained again from my house."
He was targeted by pro-government media
Journalist Hakan Gülseven and Taylan Kulaçoğlu were debating the current issues in a YouTube program. Kulaçoğlu has been targeted by several mainstream media outlets due to his "Movement of the Nameless." Some of these targeting remarks were as follows:
"In addition to its activities to set a TT list and targeting social media accounts that do not fit its opinions, the Movement of the Nameless was also posting provoking tweets to create chaos in Turkey and manipulation.
"The person named Taylan Kulaçoğlu, who is said to support the DHKP-C terrorist organization and propagandize for a terrorist organization on social media, was leading a Twitter account called "Movement of the Nameless". (EKN/SD)
