The Trade Union of Employees in Public Health and Social Services (SES) organized a slowdown strike today (December 2) in eight cities — Ankara, Antalya, Urfa, Mersin, Şırnak, Mardin, Dersim and İzmir.
The union protests a recent "additional indicator law" that excludes health workers other than doctors and nurses.
Additional indicator is a method used to calculate civil servants' salaries, retirement benefits and pensions.
The union stated that it will organize a one-day work stoppage on December 6.
SES members gathered in the eight cities and released statements demanding all health workers be included in the law.
The SES branch in the capital city of Ankara stated that they will not accept any legal arrangement that does not include all health workers. All salaries should be above the poverty line, it said.
The SES Antalya Branch said, "Healthcare is a team job. We want salaries for each member of the team that is sufficient to live humanely." (RT/VK)
