Growth in global carbon emissions slowed down in 2019, according to the Global Carbon Budget, one of the most comprehensive scientific studies on carbon emissions.
Turkey ranked 15th in carbon emissions in 2019, according to the report that was launched at the UN climate summit (COP25) in Spain's Madrid yesterday (December 4).
Emissions from fossil fuel and industry are expected to reach 36.81 billion tonnes of CO2 in 2019, with a 0.6 percent increase from 2018, according to the latest estimates from the Global Carbon Project (GCP). In the previous year, the increase was 2.4 percent.

The global decline in growth is due to a decline in coal use, most notably in the US and Europe, according to the report. Apart from China, the world actually reduced its carbon emissions, the report found.
The reduction in the speed of increase, however, is not enough to achieve the target of the global temperature rise of 1.5 degrees, the report noted. (PT/VK)
