Netflix has announced that it will open an office in Turkey in the second half of 2021.
The office will host the Netflix team in Turkey and provide new employment opportunities, the online broadcaster said in a statement today (December 3).
Reed Hastings, the co-founder and co-CEO of Netflix, said the decision clearly shows the company's commitment to Turkey.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy welcomed the move, saying that the film and TV industry has become a key tool in the promotion of the country and cultural diplomacy as well as economic contributions to the country.
"The move will contribute to Netflix production of more Turkish output which will be enjoyed all over the world," he said. "Turkey is very valuable to us with its rich culture and a deep-rooted tradition of telling stories. Therefore, we are proud to open an office in Istanbul, a magnificent city."
The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), which was authorized to regulate online broadcasting last year, approved the license of Netflix in early November.
