Courts do not take into account 'publication ban' decision by the Constitutional Court
The publication ban imposed by the Istanbul 5th Criminal Peace Judgeship on Sunday's church attack is not the first. In 2023, courts and judges issued 114 publication bans on various incidents. However, in 2019, the Constitutional Court and in 2021, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that such bans violate freedom of expression and the press. These bans not only affect the media but also amount to censorship of the public's right to information.

Conducting an investigation into the allegations that two villagers were dropped from a military helicopter, the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has imposed a confidentiality order on the file and banned broadcasting or publishing news about the issue.

Publication Ban for Özgür Gündem Newspaper
The publication of the Özgür Gündem newspaper was suspended for one month. The Gün Printing Company was raided by the police and the Sunday's issue of the newspaper was confiscated.

Halkın Günlüğü Newspaper Banned for 1 Month
The Halkın Günlüğü newspaper was banned for one month; the copies the 18th issue were seized on the day of its publication on 10 September. The reason for the publication ban is alleged "propaganda for an armed terrorist organization".

Azadiya Welat Newspaper Banned - Again
Azadiya Welat, the only nation-wide newspaper in Turkey publishing in Kurdish, has been banned for the duration of 15 days. This is the ninth publication ban for the daily. Its printing house in Diyarbakır was searched by the police.

Two Kurdish Newspapers Banned, Güney Magazine Copies Seized
The publication of the Kurdish newspapers Azadiya Welat and Rojev was suspended for one month because of alleged "propaganda for a terror organization". Copies of the three-monthly Güney magazine were confiscated for the same reason.

"Yürüyüş" Magazine Banned for One Month
An Istanbul Court decided to close the weekly Yürüyüş magazine because of alledged "propaganda for an illegal organization" based on an article entitled "We are on the way to Kızıldere". The 22nd issue of the magazine was confiscated. An investigation into the editorial manager was launched.

2 Publication Bans in 3 Days for Kurdish Azadiya Welat Newspaper
Within three days, the Istanbul High Criminal Court imposed another publication ban on the Kurdish Azadiya Welat newspaper based on two articles and one obituary for a PKK member. One of the articles mentioned is entitled "Heroism week is the saga of freedom".

Kurdish Daily Azadiya Welat Banned again
Another one month's publication ban was imposed on the Kurdish Azadiya Welat newspaper because of "propaganda for an illegal organization". Editor Kılınç received a 21 year's prison sentence recently; former editorial manager Kurşun faces imprisonment of up to 525 years.

Aydınlık Magazine Banned for One Month
A court closed down Aydınlık magazine for 1 month and collected the latest issue because of alleged "Ergenekon terror organization propaganda" and making the prosecutor "a target for the organization". The IPI Local Committee and the Turkey Journalists Association sharply criticised the decision.

Less than 1 month after the ban of Günlük newspaper, an Istanbul court also banned the "Democratic Initiative" newspaper on the grounds of an alleged praise of PKK member Aliye Timur in a news article about his funeral.
