Resolution extending the authority period for another year for a cross-border operation against Iraq and Syria was passed by General Assembly of Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
Justice and Development Party (AKP), Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) gave yes vote while Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) said no. 20 deputies from CHP who criticized their party’s approach over the resolution didn’t participate in the voting.
AKP had passed a resolution allowing an operation against Iraq in 2007, for the first time and the resolution was extended for six times. In 2012, a cross-border operation against Syria was approved and it was extended once more.
What does ‘resolution’ say?
According to the news of Anadolu Agency, resolution says:
"In order to protect and keep Turkey’s surplus profits effectively, to adopt a dynamic and quick policy for not facing a difficult position, its scope, borders, time and quality will be determined by the government, Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) shall perform cross-border operations if necessary, foreign units shall take place in Turkey to perform cross-border operations and all kinds of precautions shall be taken to eliminate risks and threats, according to the principles taken by the government.”
Justification
"Armed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members exist in northern Iraq. The number of terrorist factions in Syria and Iraq increased. Turkey gives great importance to the territorial integrity, national unity and stability of Iraq and has to keep military, political and diplomatic precautions and attempts against the existing threats in Iraq.
