Of the prominent newspapers of England, the Times in its article entitled “Final in Syria” addressed Sochi summit jointly held by Russian Leader Vladimir Putin, President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
“Future of Syria must be determined at negotiation table, not in the war zone. Vladimir Putin knows this”, said the article and added:
“Dialogue with the dissident groups has been accepted”
“Mr. Erdoğan as well pledged that Turkish army will not attack on Kurdish forces in Syria without consulting with Damascus government. Russia, Turkey and Iran want to increase [Syrian Leader Bashar] Assad’s authority and to show that he can control borders of his country.
“In return, Mr. Putin seems to receive the promise from Assad that he will ‘attend constructively’. This means that Syria has agreed to engage in dialogue with dissident groups in the north”.
Remarking that “international community must not bow to the Sochi consensus”, the Times defended that a political transition process that will encourage a wholly democratic election to be held in Syria must be initiated as a result of the peace negotiations. (PT/TK)
