Hundreds of people, mostly women have gathered in front of the Parliament to protest the law draft proposing impunity for sexual abuse crimes under the condition that the perpetrator married the victim. The protesters demand that the law draft be withdrawn.
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım announced today (November 22) in the morning hours, that the draft would be withdrawn and sent back to the commission. At 3 p.m. the draft will submitted to the Parliament and a recommendation will be made to send back to the commission.
The protests of the women in front of the Parliament continue. Women are carrying banners which read "Rape cannot be whitewashed", "There is no such thing as child bride, there is only pervert men", "Immunity for children, not for rapists".
Also some parliament members have attended the protest.
According to the report of sendika.org, police attacked some protesters from the People's House with pepper gas. (NV/DG)
