The government has withdrawn the law draft proposing impunity in case perpetrator gets married with victim in sexual abuse crimes.
The draft was expected to be seen at Assembly General Council today (November 22).
At the press meeting he held at Atatürk Airport, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said the law draft will be re-evaluated at the Assembly Commission and suggestions of opposition and NGOs will be taken into consideration.
What had happened?
The Justice and Development Party (AKP) submitted the law draft in question on November 17.
The draft demanded deferment of the verdict for sexual abuse crimes committed until November 16, 2016 in case the perpetrator gets married with the victim.
Furthermore, imposing penalty on families was averted in child marriages; also requested cases be dropped or no penalties be imposed for abettors.
It was stated that the penalty will be imposed only in divorce cases that occur due to “fault of perpetrator”. (ÇT/TK)
