The funeral of Elif Sultan Kalsen, a DHKP-C militant who was killed after assaulting Istanbul Police Headquarters, has been sent to her homeland for funeral.
On April 1, gunshots were heard around 5:45 pm local time outside Istanbul’s Police Headquarters in Vatan Street.
After the incident, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin released a statement, informing that “one woman carrying a bomb and weapon was shot dead".
The official media channel for the Revolutionary People's Liberation Front (DHKP) confirmed that Kalsen perpetrated the plot to take the revenge of two of its militants who were killed on March 31 during the Istanbul Courthouse Hostage Crisis.
Elif Sultan Kalsen’s body has been received by her family this morning after the procedures were complete at Forensics Institute in Istanbul.
Transferred to Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport under police siege , Kalsen’s body will be sent to Elazığ by plane and to Dersim for burial by motorway.
On January 6, a female suicide bomber hit a tourism police station in the historical district of Sultanahmet, Istanbul, leaving 1 policeman dead and 1 policeman injured.
Initially, DHKP-C claimed the plot, announcing that the plot was perpetrated by Elif Sultan Kalsen. The organization, later on, denied that it organized the plot.
Denying allegations, Kalsen also filed a complaint against news organizations who portrayed her as a suicide bomber.
“This body doesn’t belong to my daughter,” said Kalsen’s family after going to the morgue to receive Kalsen’s body - proving that Kalsen wasn’t involved in Sultanahmet bombing. (NV/BM)
