After the government announced the minimum wage for 2021, municipalities led by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) began to announce the minimum salaries they will pay to their employees next year as well.
The net monthly minimum wage was announced today (December 28) as 2,825.90 lira (~377 USD), with a 21.5 percent increase from last year.
CHP Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu previously said that the minimum wage should be 3,100 lira (~416 USD) at least.
The municipalities of İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Adana, the four largest cities of the country, and Hatay, announced the minimum monthly wage as 3,100 lira for their employees.
The minimum wage will be applied for the employees at municipalities, municipal companies and affiliated organizations, they said.
The Eskişehir Municipality announced its minimum wage as 3,350 lira and the Tepebaşı District Municipality's minimum wage will be 3,450 lira. (HA/VK)
