The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has responded to words of Minister of Forestry and Water Affairs, Veysel Eroğlu who said ““NASA’s meteorological forecasts are behind ours”.
NASA Spokesperson Sean Potter answering the questions of Hürriyet daily said that NASA doesn’t make forecast of weather.
Spokesperson Potter: It is not an official NASA report
NASA Spokesperson Sean Potter stating the research conducted as to drought is not an official NASA report.
“The research in question was carried out by a group of scientists including a scientist from NASA. It is not an official NASA report.
“NASA doesn’t operate weather forecast satellites and doesn’t make practical forecast of weather. That is under the responsibility of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)”.
Eroğlu had said “Who the hell is NASA”
A group of scientists including a scientist from NASA declared that the drought lasting as of 1998 in Eastern Mediterranean has been the worst for the past 900 years. Minister Eroğlu evaluating this statement had spoken as follows:
“NASA’s meteorological forecasts are behind ours. Our technology is more advanced than theirs. Who the hell is NASA. They are looking at the climate date globally. We look at them locally. We make the most effective forecasts in our region by the stations we built on the seas”.
Reason of drought is human A group of scientists including a scientist from the NASA had announced in last March that the drought that has begun in 1998 is the worst drought seen in the Eastern Mediterranean region involving Turkey, Cyprus, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria in the past 900 years. The matter was covered by media in Turkey on March 2. According to Cook and his team, drought seen in the years between 1998-2013 in the Eastern Mediterranean region which includes Turkey as well passed 50% wilder than the most droughty period in the past 500 years. It was 10-20% more droughty than the most droughty period of the past 900 years."When we look at the incidents and abnormalities falling outside the natural variability that lasted for centuries, we can see that they have been caused by human-based climate change", said Cook. | |
