Former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs Ayla Akat Ata and Taşkın Aktaş have been released.
Having been tried on charge of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization”, Aktaş and Ata have been released along with three other people in the hearing held at Ardahan 1st Heavy Penal Court.
Aktaş was HDP Ardahan MP in 25th term and became MP candidate from the HDP for June 24 elections.
What happened?
Aktaş was arrested on February 21 as part of the operation launched into a statement she made for the press about Kamber Morkoç (70), who was killed as a result of soldiers shooting at the minibus, which was heading from village of Gundik in province of Ardahan towards the picnic area located between Şenkaya and Göle.
Ayla Akat Ata was arrested on February 20, 2018 as part of the same investigation due to the speech she gave at Morkoç’s funeral.
Before this investigation, Akat Ata was detained on October 26, 2016 for having attended the demonstration, which was organized in protest of detentions of Diyarbakır Co-Mayors Gültan Kışanak and Fırat Anlı, in front of the municipality building in Diyarbakır.
Akat Ata was arrested on October 30, 2016 along with Kışanak and Anlı. She was released in the first hearing held on May 4, 2017. (ÇT/TK)
