Google has announced that it will not approve new Android devices to be released in Turkey.
Turkey's Competition Board fined Google 93 million lira (~17.4 million US dollars) in September 2018 as part of an investigation where the company was under scrutiny whether it violated the country's laws on competition.
In November, the Competition Board ruled that the changes the company made in its contracts with its partners were not adequate and that the company cannot continue to operate in Turkey with the current contracts.
"We've informed our business partners that we will not be able to work with them on new Android phones to be released for the Turkish market," Google said in a statement.
"We are working with the Competition Board to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
"Consumers will be able to purchase existing device models and will be able to use their devices and applications normally. Google's other services will be unaffected.
"We understand the difficulties this case brought for users, manufacturers, application developers and operators in Turkey, therefore, working with the Competition Board, we hope to resolve the issue as soon as possible." (KU/DB)
