Floods occurred in late July in Arhavi and Murgul districts of the northeastern province of Artvin caused a public loss of 221 million lira (~26.2 million USD), according to the country's disaster management agency.
"Of this, 106.5 million lira is the loss of individuals and businesses, and 114.5 million lira is the loss in public infrastructure," said the Artvin provincial director of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), Mehmet Avcı.
After heavy rainfall on July 22, Kapisre and Kabaca streams flooded, affecting large parts of the two districts.
Environmental groups blame the hydroelectric power plants built on rivers and streams for the increased floods throughout the region.
